A hidden corner of paradise for a wedding or special celebration in Tuscany

"The 6th of July 2013 will always remain our most beautiful day ever, thanks to the enchanting corner of Convento del Carmine in Cerignano. Our arrival was accompanied by a marvellous light which illuminated the convent. The first part of the reception took place in the adjacent gardens, where for about an hour we enjoyed apertivi before moving into the internal part of the property for dinner. The tables were positioned around the cloister which was the heart of the evening: from our first dance, to the games with friends, and finally the emotional cutting of the wedding cake over the well. The celebrations went on into the early morning with a delightful background of music. Thanks to the courtesy and help of Giovanni and Giovanna we experienced an unforgettable and unimaginable evening."

When we were looking for a location for our wedding, under the advice of a friend, we checked out Convento del Carmine di Cerignano and it was love at first sight. It is a truly beautiful place! The ancient convent is immersed amidst the nature and hills of Lunigiana and provides the possibility of providing a wedding banquet whether inside or outside. We got married on the 15th September and had planned to celebrate in the gardens outside, counting on a sunny day, but unfortunately the weather turned out to be unfavourable and it rained all day. Despite this the Convento turned out again to be the perfect choice of venue because we were able to quickly modifiy our plans making use of the grand indoor dining room and the splendid cloister. Furthermore, we were even able to benefit from the next door dining room where all the children ate together. The celebration was a great success and after the wedding lunch we sang and danced. All the guests were very happy, but above all they remained taken by the location because, not only was it beautiful, but one was made to feel completely immersed in a magical atmosphere of days gone by. We must furthermore thank Giovanni and Giovanna, the owners, for their gracious hospitality in helping us enjoy such as very special day!!!

We were very fortunate people to have the opportunity to stay in the apartment of Convento del Carmine during the renovation of our home. The Convento is truly a magical location. We would sit outside and watch the fire flies float by and think of all the historical activities that once occurred here. Hearing the local bells chime, seeing the wild life and experiencing this magical location will last a life time. It was truly a private, gated and secluded retreat yet very close to all the amenities of the village of Fivizzano. We greatly enjoyed the evening view of the village, with the sun setting behind the mountains in the background...then later, the same view with the lights of the village under a night sky filled with stars.

My husband and I had the most magical stay at Convento del Carmine in the hills just above Fivizzano, North Tuscany. Landlord Giovanni was there to greet us at the gate with smiles and keys. He has a good grasp of English (better than our Italian!) and was very welcoming and helpful.

Our spacious apartment was spotless, with a well-equipped kitchen, comfortable large bed and the most stunning views over medieval cloisters, mountains and pine forests. One morning, we woke up to find a stag on the grounds – magical!

We loved the privacy, peace and quiet and nature all around. It is far from the madding crowds, but also ideally placed about a mile from various shops, bars and eateries in town. It is easy to access the motorway too, for day-trips to the coast, Cinque Terre, Lucca, Florence etc. We think it is a perfect getaway for couples or a rural retreat for families seeking something different. Giovanni also showed us the second apartment which connects through a locked door – so the two could be used together for a large group/family.

In a nutshell, Convento del Carmine is the secret jewel of Tuscany. We will be sure to return. A presto!
